A Look At The Hyundai 2016 Elantra GT

20916 Hyundai Elantra GT

The new 2016 Hyundai Elantra GT is looking to spoil someone. Not just anyone; it’s buyer, it’s driver and it’s passengers.

Ahem, that means you….

This brand new Elantra GT is loaded with innovative technology, useful spaces, and thoughtful engineering. Your Irwin Hyundai dealer already knows; all it takes is one test drive to understand how Hyundai caters to and spoils their drivers and passengers with the best of the following:

Preferential Treatment

Contributing to its already premium feel is the way the 2016 Elantra GT caters to the driver.

Standard on this GT is Hyundai’s driver-selectable steering modes (DSS). Letting the driver choose from one of three choices in an electric-assist power steering system that offer three steering modes; Comfort, Normal, and Sport, gives the driver the confidence and support they deserve. The Elantra reduces its level of assistance, causing the steering wheel to feel heavier, more precise and sportier. While the actual level of handling and responsiveness doesn’t change between these modes, it encourages preferential treatment for the driver. Who doesn’t want that?

Under the Hood

You’ll find that the engine is exactly powerful enough to keep this GT impressing you and those you pass on the highway. A 2.0L direct-injected 4 cylinder engine achieves the best power-to-weight ratio in its class, delivering 173 horsepower and 154 lb/ft of torque.

Mated to a six-speed manual transmission, there is also a choice for six-speed automatic which features a both SHIFTRONIC and Active Eco mode.

Always looking for better fuel efficiency, SHIFTRONIC possesses a lock-up torque converter for higher fuel economy when traveling at highway speeds.

Another way Hyundai caters to its driver is through the Active Eco mode. This is a setting which adjusts throttle response and transmission’s shifts pattern, giving the driver an accurate estimate of its fuel economy.

Currently, the 2016 Elantra GT gets an EPA estimation of 24 miles per gallon city driving and 33 miles per gallon highway driving equals a combined 27 miles per gallon. These numbers apply both to automatic and manual configurations.

Packages

2016 Hyundai Elantra Packages

It’s no surprise that Hyundai is going to pack this Elantra GT is loaded with extra features and technology. Hyundai celebrates their drivers with elements specific to the driver’s needs, sublime presentation and attention to detail. Offering two different packages, both overflow with materials that showcase thoughtful design. The Style Package adds the general goodness that any owner wants to feel extra special while the Tech package has top trim items that make you feel you’re driving a luxury sedan.

Style Package

Staying in style is part of what makes driving a Hyundai so much fun. Riding on 17-inch alloy wheels, the Elantra GT offers this package to treat the driver to premium quality while ensuring ultimate value.

A push-button start allows for faster ‘get-in-and-go’ time while the Proximity Key means you don’t have to fuss through your purse or spill your coffee trying to fumble the correct key to the lock.

A simple push of the button on the door will unlock the driver’s door given the proximity key is, you got it, within proximity to the vehicle.

Leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob add to the luxe feel of the cabin while Blue Link Telematics System reminds you that technology is never compromised.

Tech Package

The Technology Package includes automatic headlamps, LED tail lights and automatic headlight control. What would feel more luxurious to lean back on while star gazing through your panoramic moonroof than leather upholstered seats? A 7-inch touchscreen has been centered on the dashboard that is powered by Hyundai’s connected infotainment tech Blue Link. Equipped with a navigation system and extremely responsive to inputs, this software features clear rendered graphics, texts, and maps.

The available connected system offered is Blue Link, a system that puts telematics features at the driver’s fingertips via a web portal. You can also download a Hyundai Blue Link app for iOS or Android. Users can monitor their fuel economy and monthly vehicle health reports, search for destinations and display them to the Elantra GT’s interface via their compatible smartphone. Tracking the GT’s location remotely to monitor a teen driver or recover a stolen vehicle is also available through this system.

In an homage to the great Bond vehicles, Hyundai has attached a rear-view camera in a very hidden place. Attached to the back of the Hyundai badge on the rear hatch you will find the camera that displays the rear view on the 7-inch LCD screen on the dashboard. The Hyundai badge opens only when the GT is put into “Reverse”. Smooth move, Hyundai. Smooth move.

Room for the Kitchen Sink

2016 Hyundai Elantra

Feeling more like a midsize sedan with 119 cubic feet of total interior volume, one of the best features of the 2016 Hyundai Elantra GT is the amount of cargo space this compact car provides. When the rear seats fold down, 51 cubic feet of extra storage is revealed. So, whether it be a moving into your dorm room, stowing away for a weekend or packing for a colossal tailgating extravaganza, the 2016 GT is never going to be short on room.

There’s an extra cargo area storage compartment is hidden in the trunk. A removable mat reveals extra space for packing up, storing more or keeping secrets.

It also serves as a perfect super secret hiding spot for that gift you can’t bring in the house quite yet.

That equals more room available than any other in its class. Combined with the panoramic sunroof which makes the interior space feel doubled, the GT supplies the feeling of total spaciousness.

Favorite Features

The 2016 Elantra GT is full of thoughtful gestures and multipurpose spaces that adapt to the specific needs of the driver and passengers. Most cars these days feature dual automatic temperature control, but the 2016 GT takes it one step further. In an innovative and ingenious move by Hyundai, a Clean Air Ionizer has been installed into the ventilation system to ensure that clean air is being circulated throughout the car.

Another ingenious addition is the well executed dual purpose glove box. Vents have been placed in the glove box to cool any items stored in there. Do you keep a hidden snack stash in your car? You may want to consider keeping it in the glove box. While the air conditioner is running, cool air will be circulating through the glove box as well keeping its contents chill, just like your new life.
